Sikth death of a dead day

When it turns out that Martians have been existing among metalheads, I'll nominate SikTh as Exhibit A. The melodic "Where Do We Fall" even indicates at future radio success, if GOJIRA covering QUEENSRYCHE ever had a chance on your FM dial. The haunting "In This Light" sounds like it crawled off of a side of TOOL's Ænima, and the spoken interlude "Mermaid Slur" sports the band's NICK CAVE influence almost as much as their "Tupelo" cover on their first album, The Trees are Dead & Dried Out…Wait for Something Wild. This is the kind of band that makes you inadvertently headbang and pump your fist. Perhaps that's because Death of a Dead Day never sounds like it's imitating anything elseĭespite all its compositional and stylistic shifts, Death of a Dead Day never stops being catchy. For such an aggressive band, SikTh are never overwhelming, and even moments like the blaring "Another Sinking Ship and the almost unimaginable "Summer Rain" sound organic. Guitarists PIN and DAN WELLER verge on beating the lives out of their instruments, but that's only apparent after multiple listens–there's too much to dissect on Death of a Dead Day for concern over how it was made. Opening with the frantic one-two punch of "Bland Street Bloom" and "Flogging the Horses," instant riffs contort under relentless drumming and yelping vocal spasms. But SikTh's defining moment arrived on the otherwise uneventful 6/6/06, when they treated the masses to Death of a Dead Day. The verses talk from perspective of being in the actual dream, where the chorus’ are in despair from an awoken perspective. The song itself has a lot of elements of both tradition and new SikTh.After several EPs and a full-length on Gut Records, SikTh enjoyed an appearance at Download, a Japan tour with ANTHRAX, KILLSWITCH ENGAGE and DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN and sold-out U.K. Mikee explains more about this – “Lyrically it is inspired by traumatic dreaming. Prior to release, the band unveiled their music video for new track “Vivid”. A simple error breaks the machine and brings us back to the beginning.” A perfected human race brought down by its own need to innovate and improve. Meats Meier adds “This image represents the construction of the future and its ultimate demise. We are all so proud to have him design our sleeve”. The spectacular artwork for The Future In Whose Eyes? has been created by 3D animator and artist Meats Meier – “ Meats has been a friend for years and he came out to see the show in LA and loved it. We wanted something really special and we got it, he is an absolute genius, a visionary and a pioneer. He knows his and mind well and so we nailed the song really quicky”. I really like Periphery and especially love Spencer’s voice, he’s not your usual djent singer, and he’s very much a spiritual man. In late summer 2016 SikTh made their first foray into the US live arena after being invited to join Periphery on tour “ They’re really nice people, everyone on that US tour felt it was the best one they’d been on,” smiles Mikee, it was over those weeks that a plan was hatched “ We actually got him down to R&R Studios in Uxbridge where we made the album. I think we’ve done something special here.” The band have made incredible music, brutal, technically warped mixed with some psychedelic moments. Also swimming into fictional worlds and dreamscapes. I have taken myself to some very dark places, commentated on this world as I see it. From my point I have written all vocals and lyrics. SikTh vocalist & lyricist Mikee W Goodman adds “Personally I feel this is our best album yet. I don’t care how over ambitious it sounds – we want this record to be heard by every metal fan on the planet.” Opacities was the rebirth of SikTh but ‘The Future…’ is our statement – I want this album to define us. We spent over a year writing it and pushed ourselves extremely hard – sometimes too hard. This record feels like the one we’ve always wanted to make. Dan Weller, SikTh’s guitarist and producer proudly states “Ever since SikTh was formed way back at the turn of the century we’ve tried to self improve as musicians and as song writers.
